The Hidden Caves of Ra: The Cave of the Tree of Human Kindness
The Hidden Caves of Ra are in the high desert of northern New Mexico and
are hand carved by the artist Ra.
They are a very well kept secret. Many locals don't know of their existence. Ra is said to be an eccentric artist that is about seventy years of age. Ra will spend up to 500 hours building a cave. He is said to have carved 14 of them, each one entirely unique. Of the two I have seen they are amazingly peaceful, holy places that command the type of reverence of a beautiful cathedral or temple. I've heard that Ra has carved these places for people to check out of society, recover from addiction, or welcome the Mothership.

Since the location has been disclosed on this site as well as many others it has begun to be vandalized. it should be noted that it is also on private property, and entry to it is through a fence that has been cut.

The location was not disclosed on this site only that it is in northern new mexico. There never was a fence so you must be confusing it with another cave, however it is very tragic that any of these caves are being vandalised. You are right, it should be noted that it is on private property. I sincerely doubt that the vandalism is because of visitors to this site. It's not that popular. Only 14 hits on this entry. Thanks for the info.

I sure you are right. and very nearly everthing in that area gets vandalised. i started seeing more traffic on that road after the realtor posted pictures of it on thier site. and the location has been put onto one of the big internet maps.
I have also heard rumor that the forest service has filled in two other of his other caves north of that area- as soon as the snow clears i will go check them.
good luck on your own quests.

Wow some people are so stupid... Thanks for the news about the caves. I think someone should organize a foundation committed to the preservation of these works of art... Cheers

Oh and would you please give me a link to the realtor so I can get everyone I know to abuse them... Or at least get them to take it down... Thanks.

Does anyone know what Ra Paulette is doing now? Is he still living?

Ra is alive and well, and still living in northern New Mexico. He is still doing caves, although I believe he is retiring after his current project. I believe he is approximately 63 or 64 years old at this writing (April, 2010).

Wonderful Alice thanks so much for the update. I love his caves and would like to meet Ra soon. Cheers

do you know the owners of this property? it seems to me that the best way for it to be preserved is to have a caretaker on site. Someone to live there with minimal impact in relative hermitude. in a manner as presumably intended... I'd certainly volunteer! perhaps there could be a group with monthly/quarterly/yearly shifts?

Nope I don't know much about it. Just that it's amazing. I would love to live there too. I've heard you can get Ra to carve you one for a very good price. But I don't know him or anyone who knows him. It would be amazing to apprentice with him. If Anyone knows where to find him... Tell him I want to learn... I guess I'd have to find some land first....
